Creative Capital and Sundance 2011

Nine Creative Capital artists will present their work in the coming days at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, including five Creative Capital projects. They are also pleased to announce that Ruby Lerner will host an information session about Creative Capital’s upcoming grant round in Film/Video and Visual Arts at the Festival. See below for details.

In the U.S. documentary competition, 2008 grantees Marshall Curry and Sam Cullman’s If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front, a study of the radical environmentalist group, will screen throughout the Festival. 2005 grantee Braden King’s Here will premiere in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, and Here [The Story Sleeps], the live, transmedia version that premiered at MoMA’s Creative Capital film exhibition, will be presented as part of the Festival’s New Frontier program. Also in New Frontier, 2008 grantee Lynn Hershman Leeson’s !Women Art Revolution and Raw War, a film and an exhibition, respectively, examine the history of feminist art. 2009 Performing Arts grantee Deke Weaver will perform his Elephant at Miner’s Hospital. Finally, 2008 grantee Billy Luther’s Grab, about the Grab Day tradition in the villages of the Laguna Pueblo tribe, will premiere in the Native Showcase.

Information Session:
On January 24 at 11:00 a.m., Creative Capital President & CEO Ruby Lerner will host an information session at Miner's Hospital Green Building (New Frontier exhibition space) to answer questions about the upcoming (February 1) open call for Letters of Inquiry for projects in Film/Video and Visual Arts. Creative Capital provides integrated financial and advisory support to artists pursuing adventurous projects; whose work is provocative, timely and relevant; who are deeply engaged with their artforms, yet are also boldly original; who create work that carries the potential to reshape the cultural landscape.
