Native American Public Telecommunications, Inc. (NAPT) has been selected by the Integrated Media Association (iMA) to be one of three public broadcasting entities to participate in an IBM social media consulting project. Other project participants include Oregon Public Broadcasting and WBUR Boston. Selected participants are all members of iMA.

NAPT Interactive Media Specialist Eric Martin will lead NAPT’s participation in this project. He will be traveling to Atlanta, Georgia, in mid-May and late June 2011 to participate in two social media seminars. The collaboration between the selected participants will complement each other through dialog about organizational needs and the possibility to expand out to others within public media. In addition, two social media consultants from IBM will come to Lincoln, Nebraska, to host a day-long, hands-on workshop. NAPT staff and board members will learn best practices and strategic thinking around social media.

“NAPT was selected because we complement the other participants. We represent a small nonprofit with a national focus, but without a broadcast license. Oregon Public Broadcasting is a statewide TV and radio joint licensee and WBUR is a large, urban station,” said Martin.

NAPT prides itself on its collaborations with corporations, nonprofits, educational institutions and Tribal communities. NAPT Executive Director Shirley K. Sneve (Rosebud Sioux) commented, “While our primary business remains delivering high-quality programming to public television and radio stations, we are invested in technology. Through webstreaming, downloadable podcasts, e-newsletters, interactive webpages, webinars, digital media and social media, we have come to the forefront of reaching our audiences. But there is so much more to be learned and through this grant with IBM and iMA, NAPT will be able to touch more lives.”
