RealAbilities Film Festival

Date:
Sunday, September 21, 2008 - 12:00am - Tuesday, September 23, 2008 - 12:00am
Location:
New York, NY

The Disability Funders Network is pleased to promote the RealAbilities Film Festival. RealAbilities is the first annual NY disabilities film festival dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different disabilities. The festival will present award winning films, with more than 40 screenings in 14 locations, throughout the NY metropolitan area. Discussions and other engaging programs will bring together the community to explore, discuss and celebrate the diversity of our shared human experience.

The excitement is palpable, Sigourney Weaver will be in dialogue with Michael John Carley, the exec of GRASP after the screening of Snow Cakes; the team that produced War Eagles, which is premiering at our festival, are flying in to be present at their screening, which officially kicks off the festival; and there are a broad array of organization by and for people with disabilities, which are presenting and participating. The films that will be screened are of excellent quality, and will no doubt help to raise the consciousness of the New York community about our common humanity, which after all is the purpose in mounting this effort.

This is the first, and certainly not the last of what is intended to be an annual New York event! Do check out the web-site, www.realabilities.org.
