MPWG Conference Call - Universal Broadband: Prospects for '09

Date:
Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 2:00pm

Please join us for this first of two briefing calls exploring the opportunities for broadband policies in the U.S. that can ensure universality, affordability, equity and truly high-speed Internet usage.

Entitled "Universal Broadband: Prospects for Equity and Economic Development in '09", this first call will provide a framework for this expansive topic and include an emphasis on state-level initiatives. The second call, one month later, will focus on the opportunities in rural America and on Native lands.

The call will take place from 2-3 p.m. EST on Wednesday, September 10. Participation in this call is open to any funder interested in media policy issues.

Please RSVP to Program Coordinator Jeff Perlstein, jperlstein@gfem.org, to receive the call-in number.

Our presenters will be Jim Kohlenberger, former White House technology policy adviser, Executive Director of the VON Coalition, Senior Fellow at the Benton Foundation; and Julie Schwartz, the Broadband, Media Reform and Economic Policy Specialist at Progressive States Network.

We are pleased to welcome the National Rural Funders Collaborative as co-sponsor of this timely series. James Richardson, NRFC's Executive Director, will open the call and introduce the topic.
