Everett C. Parker Ethics in Telecommunications Awards Luncheon

Date:
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - 11:45am
Location:
The National Press Club, Washington, D.C.

Now in its 26th year, this annual event was created in 1982 to honor Reverened Parker's pioneering work as an advocate for the public's rights in broadcasting.  The Everett C. Parker Lecture is the only lecture in the country to examine telecommunications and the digital age from an ethical perspective.

This year's presenter will be Jonathan Rodgers, President and CEO of TV One. Past speakers include network presidents, Congressional leaders, FCC chairs and commissioners, as well as academics, cable and telephone executives and journalists. It is funded by the communications industry, particularly broadcasters, along with the communications offices of major faith groups.

Recipients of the 2008 Parker Awards are as follows:
  • Everett C. Parker Award: Prometheus Radio Project
  • McGannon Award: William J. Bresnan, Chairman and CEO, Bresnan Communications
  • Consumer Education and Leadership Award: Caroline Mayer, Consumer Journalist

This event is sponsored by OC Inc., of the United Church of Christ, and the Telecommunications Research and Action Center (TRAC). It includes a luncheon.
