GFEM will have a presence during the Family Philanthropy Conference in Indianapolis, which runs from February 1 - 3, 2009: screenings and discussions based on Traces of the Trade: A Story From the Deep North. The film chronicles the journey of descendents of the largest slave-trading family in America as they uncover their ancestors' history, explore the economic history of our nation, debate the origins of their contemporary wealth, and begin a quest for personal and national reconciliation. This film uses the past to propel us into a better future. Filmmaker Katrina Browne, author Thomas DeWolf, Michael Gast of Resource Generation, and others will join family members and colleagues for an intimate two-hour facilitated conversation on race, class, and privilege in America and explore how we might talk about these subjects in an honest and open way.
