The annual Games for Change Festival is the largest gaming event in New York City and the only international event uniting “games for change” creators, the public, civil society, academia, the gaming industry and media.
The 2011 event, held at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, featured 40+ hours of programming, an Awards Ceremony, Game Arcade, Demo Spotlight on games in development and featured Vice President Al Gore, gaming legend Gabe Newell (Valve founder and creator of Portal), Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sheryl WuDunn (Half the Sky), the Department of Education’s James Shelton and Zynga.org‘s Laura Hartman. Last year’s event saw 800 attendees in person, with 8,000 via Livestream.
Who attends: Decision-makers from government agencies and NGOs, innovative game developers and publishers, visionary thought leaders in education and global development and members of the media.
Planned for 2012: Opening Night, Game Arcade, Keynotes, Games for Change Awards and Ceremony, Games for Learning Institute @ Games for Change Festival, Youth Game Design Workshops, Game Demo Spotlight…others to be announced.
