Good Pitch at Tribeca
Good PitchGood Pitch, a Channel 4 BritDoc Foundation and Sundance Institute partnership, is considered by many documentary filmmakers to be the premier opportunity for outreach support. Good Pitch focuses on social-issue documentaries and brings together selected filmmakers who apply to Good Pitch for the opportunity to pitch to foundation, NGO and brand industry leaders as well as campaigners and media representatives. Hartley Film Foundation was a co-sponsor of the most recent Good Pitch, held during the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this spring.

Gene RobinsonMacky AlstonAward-winning filmmaker Macky Alston, a Hartley board member, was selected along with seven other filmmakers to pitch his documentary in development entitled The Truth Will Set You Free during the Good Pitch at Silverdocs. Macky's documentary follows Bishop Gene Robinson, the first openly gay partnered bishop in the high church of Christendom, who is at the center of a movement that involves activists seeking to restore balance in the current church/state battles for LGBT equality. Among those in the assembled audience selected as potential coalition partners for Macky's outreach efforts were John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress; Joe Solmonese, President of the Human Rights Campaign; and The Reverend Rebecca Voelkel, Program Director at the Institute for Welcoming Resources at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Full Frame Inspiration Award Sponsored by Hartley

Full FrameThe Hartley Film Foundation sponsors the Full Frame Inspiration Award, given annually at the Full Frame Film Festival in Durham, NC. The 2010 Full Frame Inspiration Award went to Surviving Hitler: A Love Story, a true story set against the rise and fall of the Third Reich. A Nazi soldier who considered film his hobby and his half-Jewish lover become co-conspirators in the Valkyrie project to assassinate Hitler, and, in doing so, put their lives on the line. The archival footage, shot mostly by this couple, is riveting, and these lovers and their families struggle to maintain throughout the war an inspiring degree of integrity, courage, optimism and love for each other and for all those around them in need.
